The term “sabbat” usually refers to the eight seasonal celebrations observed by many Pagan traditions, but can also refer to any formal gathering of witches or Wiccans.

The seasonal celebrations include the Winter and Summer Solstices, the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, and the four mid-points between the Solstices and Equinoxes, called cross-quarter days.

Samhain: Halloween. Witches New Year
Southern Hemisphere May 1st/ Northern Hemisphere October 31st

Samhain pronounced sah-win, is the third and final harvest festival and marks the end of harvest and start of Winter. Samhain marks a sacred day for practicing witches. It is seen as the beginning of the Witches' Year, when the cycle of death and rebirth begins once again. It’s time to let go of the things that no longer serve you and start afresh. Samhain is a time of both life and death. The growing season is finished and the earth can rest. While it marks the start of a new Wheel of the Year, Samhain is also a time to remember departed family and friends.
